Established in 1969, the church exudes a distinct aesthetic, thanks to its signature bamboo motif that weaves
tradition and faith together. Walk through the doors and you're greeted by an impressive interior
adorned with bamboo – from the altar and lectern to the benches, even the floor tiles echo this theme.
This design pays homage to Tipas' past, when the area was rich in bamboo groves, encapsulating the
essence of Filipino culture in a beautiful, organic style.
First-timers to this place often find it deceptively ordinary from the outside. But on stepping inside,
they are invariably struck by its inherent simplicity and unique character. The bamboo pews offer
a surprisingly comfortable and 'presko' (cool) seating, lending the space an air of informal
elegance. Look out for the quaint 'bahay kubo' (traditional Filipino hut) by the door, enhancing
the rustic charm of the church.
Historically, this parish was part of the Immaculate Conception Parish of Pasig, then later
transferred to the Shrine of Saint Anne in Sta. Ana, Taguig City. Since 2003, it has belonged to
the Vicariate of St. Anne under the Diocese of Pasig, with Rev. Fr. Glenn B. Gaabucayan serving as
the current parish priest.
Today, amid Taguig's rapidly urbanizing landscape, the Bamboo Church serves as a poignant reminder of
the city's past, steadfastly maintaining its serenity and sacredness. This makes it not only a
place of worship but also a popular attraction that encapsulates the enduring spirit of Filipino
heritage and community.
Whether you're a devout pilgrim, a history buff, or simply in search of a unique cultural experience,
the St. John the Baptist Parish, also known as the Bamboo Church, is a must-visit. The blend of
spirituality, history, and the allure of bamboo aesthetics makes it an unforgettable stop in Taguig City.
