A week-long celebration for senior citizens was initiated in Taguig City yesterday, October 2, following a flag-raising ceremony at the Taguig City Hall.
The newly elected officials of the Taguig Association of Senior Citizens (TASC) took their oath in front of Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano.
Cayetano emphasized the societal contributions of the elderly, valuing their experience and knowledge.
An interpretative dance performance was presented by the 1st runner up of That's My Lola 2023, Erlinda Imbao, accompanied by her grandchildren.
The first seven days of October have been declared as Elderly Filipino Week since 1994, in recognition of the contributions of Filipino senior citizens.
During the same event, Cayetano recognized the Lifeline Assistance for Neighbors In-Need (LANI) scholars and board topnotchers - Timothy Regienald Zepeda (No. 1, Electrical Engineering Board Exam), Kimberly Dayagro (No. 2, Criminology Board Exam), and Angelo Lopez (No. 8, Master Electrician Board Exam) by presenting them with special merit incentives.
After the event, Cayetano and Councilor Raul Aquino visited the home of Segundina Dela Cruz Laurente of Barangay Cembo, who celebrated her 101st birthday.
Cayetano and Aquino personally handed over a ₱100,000 birthday cash gift, a tradition for every living centenarian in the city.
Senior citizens of Taguig, including the new residents of its EMBO (Enlisted Men's Barrios) barangays, receive between P3,000 to P10,000 on their birthdays under City Ordinance No. 25 series of 2017. They also receive free medicine, free nursing services at their homes, along with free wheelchairs, canes, and hearing aids.
