A 16-year-old male student died after their house in Barangay Bakakeng, Baguio City was buried in a landslide yesterday, July 26, during the height of Typhoon Egay.
His parents survived but sustained injuries after being excavated from the collapsed house. The deceased's 59-year-old construction worker father and 48-year-old mother were dug out around 10:30 am on July 26.
According to the Baguio City Public Information Office, the teenager was trapped in his room and was only excavated by rescuers past noon.
Meanwhile, two men were injured but saved after a landslide hit their shanties in Purok 5 BGH Compound around 8:00 am yesterday, July 26.
Baguio City Police Director Police Colonel Francis Bulwayan said the victims, a taxi driver and owner of the collapsed shanty, along with his 44-year-old car wash worker, a resident of Teachers Camp, were rescued by personnel from Kennon Road Police Station 8.
Typhoon Egay continues to weaken as it moves northwest over the waters of Batanes. It now only has a strength of 155 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts up to 190 kilometers per hour.
According to a report by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA at 11:00 pm last night, signal number 3 remains raised over Bangui, Pagudpud, Burgos, and Pasuquin in Ilocos Norte. Signal number 2 is raised over Cagayan, Babuyan Islands, Kalinga, Abra, the remaining parts of Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Ilocos Sur, and the western part of the Mountain Province and Batanes.
Signal number 1 is raised over Isabela, the remaining parts of Mountain Province, Ifugao, Zambales, Pangasinan, Benguet, La Union, Nueva Vizcaya, the remaining parts of Ilocos Sur, Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Pampanga, the northern part of Bataan and the north of Bulacan.
Typhoon Egay is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday morning, heading towards the Taiwan Strait and is expected to make landfall in Fujian, China on Friday morning.
