Two individuals have reportedly died due to Super Typhoon Egay (International name: Doksuri), which made landfall this morning on the Babuyan Islands and in Aparri, Cagayan.
A 38-year-old man identified as Mangintee Paras-e Sagandoy, a married resident of Betwagan, Sadanga, died when a landslide occurred at Sitio Pakkil Caluttit, Bontoc, Mountain Province. The landslide hit a makeshift shelter where two individuals took shelter.
Sagandoy's body was recovered from the mud and taken to Bontoc General Hospital, but he was declared dead at 5:45 PM on July 26.
A woman was also reported dead in Cardona, Rizal due to the heavy rain and wind brought by Typhoon Egay as it was making landfall.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is still trying to identify the deceased woman. According to a report, the woman allegedly fell into an overflowing creek and was swept away by the strong current. Her body was found on July 25 near the creek in a field.
It is estimated that 180,439 people have been affected by Typhoon Egay, while 8,917 are still currently in evacuation centers.
Meanwhile, the Naval Forces Northern Luzon evacuated residents from dangerous areas in Cagayan and took them to evacuation centers. The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Tuao evacuated those living in Barangay Battung after the Chico River overflowed, causing flooding in the area.
The Itawes Bridge and Ninoy Aquino Bridge were closed to traffic after the situation at the Chico River became critical.
Flooding was also reported in Pudtol, Apayao on the afternoon of July 26 due to the heavy rainfall caused by Typhoon Egay. According to a report from their provincial government, Barangay Mataguisi in Pudtol is submerged in floodwater.
