Occidental Mindoro was jolted by a 5.5 magnitude earthquake at 6:42 PM, January 20, 2025.
The quake, with a depth of 116 kilometers, was pinpointed to have originated from Lubang, Occidental Mindoro.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported an Intensity IV tremor was felt in Lubang, Occidental Mindoro.
Meanwhile, Intensity III tremors were recorded in Taguig City, Makati City, Quezon City, Obando Bulacan, Hermosa Bataan, Cainta Rizal, and Cabuyao Laguna.
Intensity II was documented in Puerto Galera Occidental Mindoro, Cuenca and Talisay in Batangas, and in Tagaytay and Bacoor Cavite.
Muntinlupa City experienced an Intensity I quake.

Intensity III - Tagaytay, Cavite; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro
Intensity II - Navotas City; Pandi and San Rafael, Bulacan; Bauan, Talisay, and Tanauan, Batangas; Naic, Ternate, and Trece Martires, Cavite; Calamba, Laguna; Abra De Ilog, Magsaysay, and Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro.
Intensity I - Malabon City; Bulacan, Bustos, and Paombong, Bulacan; Rosario, Batangas; San Pablo, Laguna; Dolores, Gumaca, and Mauban, Quezon; and Tanay, Rizal.
Phivolcs states that magnitude measures the energy of an earthquake from its focus. It is calculated from earthquakes recorded by an instrument called a seismograph.
On the other hand, intensity refers to the strength of an earthquake as felt and perceived by people in an area. It is based on interconnected impacts on people, objects, the environment, and surrounding structures. Intensity is typically higher closer to the epicenter.
