Taking advantage of the slight improvement in weather, Taguig City held a Regatta or Boat Race as part of the Taguig River Festival on July 28 in Barangay Bambang, Taguig.
Leading the race was the team "Paspas Guimaras" from Barangay Bagumbayan, who took home the grand prize of PHP 25,000. This team has remained undeterred in the top spot ever since they joined the Regatta in 2012.
Meanwhile, the "Bara-Bara Boys" of Brgy. Napindan secured the second place and a prize of PHP 15,000. The team "Pinoy Thugs" from Brgy. Sta. Ana placed third and received PHP 10,000 as a prize. The group "Walastik kung Pumitik" from Brgy. Napindan won PHP 5,000 for the fourth place.
Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano personally attended the event along with the citizens of Taguig to witness the competition of about 20 groups of boatmen.
The regatta is a tradition in Taguig every July, as part of the celebration of the feast of their patron saint, Santa Ana, and coincides with the Taguig River Festival.
Prior to this, the Pagoda on the Road was held, replacing the Pagoda on the River due to the prohibition by the Philippine Coast Guard of any type of watercraft sailing on July 26 because of the storm Egay.
