A candidate standing for the position of Barangay Captain in Bagumbayan has been removed from the official list of candidates for the upcoming Barangay Elections scheduled for October 30, 2023.
According to the Commission on Elections, Benedicto O. Santos, Jr. was disqualified on October 13, due to being deemed a nuisance candidate.
The Commission's decision pointed out that Santos attempted to confuse voters by using a nickname similar to that of another candidate running for the same position.
"Declared as a Nuisance Candidate due to the intention to cause confusion among the voters by using a nickname similar to the nickname of another candidate in the same position," as stated in the list released by the Clerk of the Commission (Comelec).
Seven other candidates for the Barangay captain and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Chairman positions were also removed from the official candidates list by the Commission.
Among those disqualified is Aniano Pancho Capinig, who was running for captain in Barangay Cabas-an, Aroroy, Masbate, due to a previously discovered 18-month imprisonment sentence.
Ireneo Polinar, who was running for Barangay Captain of Pualas, Don Carlos, Bukidnon, was disqualified due to an administrative case against them.
And Rey Tumalaytay, who was standing for Barangay Captain in Barangay Hugo Perez, Trece Martires Cavite, due to his use of an alias similar to the name of another candidate running for the same position.
