Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line, stated that they will be offering scholarships for Filipinos who wish to work on their cruise ships.

Carnival Cruise Line is already coordinating with two colleges in the Philippines - STI and the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) for this initiative. According to Duffy, they will provide the two schools with the content and training that the Filipino crew will need to work on their deck and engine, as well as hotel and hospitality programs.

The three new Carnival Cruise Line ships are expected to accommodate up to 8,000 passengers, with two of the ships set to sail next year.

Currently, there are 12,000 Filipino crew members working for Carnival Cruise Line and another 50,000 Filipino crew members working across eight brands of Carnival Corporation.
