44-year-old Chinese man Liu Shengtao was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 on January 14, as he was about to board a plane to Singapore.

BI authorities were immediately alerted upon discovering that Liu was wanted in China for money laundering - the illegal practice of making criminally-obtained money appear legal.

Liu had been residing in the Philippines for quite some time and had even secured a work visa in 2022, according to BI, before an alert order was issued against the Chinese national.

BI received information about Liu's crimes in China as recent as September 2023 and had been sought after by authorities for a significant length of time before finally being caught by BI while attempting to leave the country.
