Three hundred packages of cigarettes and vape products confiscated from stores 100 meters near schools and health facilities were destroyed by Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano during a ceremony at the health summit in Lakeshore Hall, Barangay Lower Bicutan, Taguig.

"We already know the damage caused by smoking, not only to health but also to the finances of the family," said Cayetano at the health summit on June 14.

Cayetano emphasized the need for cooperation in implementing the Comprehensive Smoke-Free Ordinance of Taguig City, which has been in effect since 2017.

The health summit in Taguig, attended by various store owners and others, was part of the observance of World No Tobacco Day by the World Health Organization and No Smoking Month by the Department of Health.

Doctors and lawyers also conducted lectures to discuss the laws against smoking and the health effects of smoking and vaping.

In addition to the lectures, around 250 store owners received free check-ups, diagnostic tests, HIV and Hepatitis B screenings and testing, vaccinations against Covid-19 and flu, and dental examinations.
