Several lawmakers are pushing to examine the possibility of establishing a new House of Representatives building near the newly constructed Senate building in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.
Through House Resolution 1390, introduced by Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr., Quezon Representative David Suarez, and Camarines Sur Representative Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr., there is a proposition to form an ad hoc committee to study this possibility for better communication and coordination of legislative work.
"Both the House and Senate used to share space, before the war, in the Legislative Building, which was the origin of the term 'upper house' and 'lower house', where the Senate had its session hall on the second floor, while the House had its session hall on the ground floor," according to the lawmakers.
They also mentioned that it should be considered that moving Congress to BGC in Taguig would bring it closer to other government agencies, multinational corporations, primary businesses, and start-ups in the field of technology.
The new Senate building is nearing completion and is expected to begin partial operation in July of next year.
