The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) spearheaded the joint clean-up efforts, together with the officials and residents of the 38 barangays of Taguig City.

Areas cleaned included the barangay surroundings, roads, creeks, and the Taguig river system.

"The success of this endeavor stands as a testament to the strong bayanihan spirit that unites the people of Taguig. Their collective mission was to foster a clean and sustainable community while promoting awareness about the critical importance of environmental preservation," according to a statement from the Taguig City government.

The clean-up was also part of Taguig's ongoing campaign to prevent flooding in their city.

Floating traps are being placed in the rivers and creeks to prevent garbage accumulation and blockages, and regular cleaning of the sewers and creeks that receive waste from the canals and sewers is conducted.

From December 4 to 30, 2023, Taguig collected 17,448 sacks of garbage from the estuaries, drainage, creeks, rivers, and canals in Taguig.

Long-term solutions to flooding, such as removing blockages in Taguig's water bodies, digging up rivers and creeks filled with garbage, and repairing or constructing water channels, have also been started.

The Taguig city government appealed to its residents to cooperate to prevent further flooding during the continuous rainy season.

The city government reminded that it is prohibited to throw garbage on the streets and water channels, it is necessary to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes, and to avoid building any structure on water bodies or water passages.
