Despite showers in various areas of the country, the intense heat of summer, exacerbated by the El Nino phenomenon, continues to prevail.
On May 15, 2024, Taguig City and the southern part of Metro Manila hit a dangerous heat index of 43 degrees Celsius.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the hottest place on May 15 is Dagupan City, Pangasinan, with a heat index reaching 47°C. In CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur, and Roxas City, Capiz, the index is at 46°C. The heat index will hit 45°C in Bacnotan, La Union, and in Virac (Synop), Catanduanes.
The following places have a heat index of 44°C:

• Aparri, Cagayan
• Alabat, Quezon
• Cuyo, Palawan
• Masbate City, Masbate
• Dumangas, Iloilo
• Catarman, Northern Samar
• Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur

• Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
• ISU Echague, Isabela
• Iba, Zambales
• Sangley Point, Cavite
• Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas
• Coron, Palawan
• San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
• Puerto Princesa City, Palawan
• Aborlan, Palawan
• Iloilo City, Iloilo
• Catbalogan, Samar
• Butuan City, Agusan del Norte
The following places with instruments will record 42°C:
• Science Garden, Quezon City
• Sinait, Ilocos Sur
• Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
• Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City
• Calapan, Oriental Mindoro
• Daet, Camarines Norte
• Legazpi City, Albay
• Mambusao, Capiz
• Guiuan, Eastern Samar
• Maasin, Southern Leyte
• Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte
Meanwhile, Baguio City and Ka Trinidad, Benguet have a lower heat index at 25°C.
Yesterday, May 14, the heat index in Dagupan City, Pangasinan reached 49°C.
PAGASA confirmed that the transition to the rainy season is beginning around this time in May.
There was also recent hail in Baguio and Quezon City.
Meanwhile, the La Niña phenomenon might intensify in the latter part of 2024. According to PAGASA's analysis, there is a 65% to 70% chance that a weak La Niña will start in June, July, and August.
La Niña is associated with more than normal rainfall.
