A significant agreement was signed yesterday, August 16, 2024, between Taguig City and medical professionals from Singapore at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Bonifacio Global City, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. The pact aims to enhance the health care of mothers and children.
SingHealth Duke-NUS Maternal and Child Health Research Institute (MCHRI), led by KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH) Singapore, has partnered with Taguig City to further improve health services for mothers and their children.
The collaboration focuses on developing primary health care needs such as planning infrastructure and improving facilities for maternal and child health in Taguig City. This includes training, knowledge exchange, the development of health programs, and joint research or activities related to science.
"We are also excited to work with Temasek Foundation and KK Women's and Children's Hospital to learn, innovate, and develop together. This collaboration will not only enhance our capacity to deliver quality healthcare but also help us adopt best practices and innovative solutions that have been successful in Singapore," Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano said after the signing of the agreement.
The Minister for Health of Singapore, Ong Ye Kung, also witnessed the signing.
"The Taguig City and Barangay Health Centres will share their understanding and insights into local needs. With a 1.2 million population, there is great disparity. I can imagine how challenging that would be, and in that way your partners can design targeted and effective health interventions. The City and Health Centres would also work closely with PhilHealth to translate policy into programme implementation. Very importantly, they will help secure funding for all the initiatives," Minister Ong stated.
Health experts from KKH and MCHRI began their visit to Taguig City on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
KK Women's and Children's Hospital in Singapore is the largest tertiary referral centre for obstetrics and gynaecology, pediatrics and neonatology in the country. The academic medical centre focuses on managing high-risk conditions in children and women.
On the other hand, SingHealth Duke - NUS Maternal and Child Health Research Institute is the leading research center related to women's and children's health in Singapore.
