Eight Taguig residents who triumphed in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games and 12th ASEAN Para Games have been recognized by the Taguig City Government in a ceremony at the Taguig Satellite Office, SM Aura Bonifacio Global City on November 16.
Maria Christina Vergara clinched the gold medal in the Women's Freestyle 65kg Wrestling category at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.
Marvin Angelo Ignacio emerged victorious in the Mobile Legends Esports at the 12th ASEAN Para Games.
Silver medals were brought home by Jiah Pingot and Michael Vijay Cater in the Women's 50kg Wrestling and Men's Greco-Roman 55kg Wrestling events, respectively.
Cathlyn Vergara collected a bronze medal in the Women's 59kg Wrestling.
Grace Loberanes secured a bronze in the Women's 55kg Wrestling, and Johann "Bad Koi" Chua also won a bronze medal in the Billiards Double.
Jeanette Agapito bagged the medal for the Women's Team Anyo non-Traditional Open Weapon event at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.
Mayor Lani Cayetano praised the athletes for their excellence despite their circumstances.
"We are grateful for athletes like you who display excellence despite what others perceive as limitations. I feel that the inspiration you will give to them, if there are those who think that they can only go so far, when they see your story, they will be inspired to do more and pay attention to the God-given gifts given to us," said Cayetano.
She added that the athletes' perseverance in their respective fields serves as an inspiration to the current generation of youth.
