The Malacañang has moved the observance of Ninoy Aquino Day from August 21, 2024, a Wednesday, to August 23, 2024, a Friday.

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. signed Proclamation Number 665 on August 15 to declare August 23, 2024, as a special non-working holiday throughout the country.

"In order to provide for a longer weekend thereby promoting domestic tourism, the celebration of Ninoy Aquino Day may be moved from 21 August 2024 (Wednesday) to 23 August 2024 (Friday)," the Malacañang announced on social media.

The Malacañang also stated that while the goal is to boost tourism in the country through a longer weekend, it is still essential to commemorate the historic day of former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino.

Before the postponement of Ninoy Aquino Day, the long weekend was supposed to be three days long due to the observance of National Heroes Day on August 26, 2024.

Due to these changes in the holiday schedule, the Malacañang has directed the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to issue the appropriate circular to implement the proclamation in the private sector.
