Four Japanese fugitives who had been evading the law in their home country for conning people over the phone were apprehended by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in separate operations in Parañaque City and Pasay City.

According to a report released by the BI on July 17, 2024, the first individuals arrested by the BI fugitive search unit were Ueda Koji, 27 years old, Kiyohara Jun, 29 years old, and Suzuki Seiji, 29 years old, in Parañaque City.

Investigations revealed that the three have outstanding warrants of arrest issued by the Omiya Summary Court for Fraud due to violations of the Japanese Penal Code.

Meanwhile, the fourth Japanese individual was arrested by the BI at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City.

Sawada Masaya, 39 years old, had fled a court-imposed prison sentence in Japan.

The four are founders of a telecom fraud syndicate based in Cambodia.

They already have cases in Japan related to imprisonment, extortion, and fraud.

The four are currently detained at the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City and will be deported out of the country once their documentation is processed.
