The free rides on LRT2 and MRT3 for women are part of the International Women's Day celebration.

"The free ride is MRT-3's simple way to show support to every 'Juana' and our gratitude for the invaluable contribution of women to the development of our country," said Transportation Assistant Secretary for Railways and MRT-3 Officer-in-Charge, Jorjette Aquino.

LRTA Administrator Hernando Cabrera expressed that the free rides for women on LRT2 are an appreciation and acknowledgment of women's successes and intellect in their work or tasks, especially in the family and community.

The train stations of the LRT2, or Purple Line, include Recto Station in Manila, which is connected to LRT 1, Legarda Station, V. Mapa Station, Gilmore Station in Quezon City, Betty Go Belmonte Station, Araneta Center-Cubao Station, where passengers can transfer from LRT 2 to MRT3, Anonas Station, Katipunan Station, Santolan Station in Marikina, and Antipolo Station.

MRT3, on the other hand, has 13 stations spanning the entire length of EDSA from Taft Avenue in Pasay City to North Avenue in Quezon City.

Last year, the number of MRT3 riders increased despite the EDSA Bus Carousel below it, recording a total of 129,030,158 riders in 2023. This figure surged by 30% from the total ridership in 2022.

"Travel time is now only 30 to 45 minutes from North Avenue Station to Taft Avenue Station. Headway is also as low as 3.5 minutes to 4 minutes during peak hours, with 18 train sets operating," according to Aquino.
