President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that rides on the Light Rail Transits 1 and 2, as well as the Metro Rail Transit 3, will be free today, December 20, 2024.

"This initiative is our simple way of helping defray costs for our country that is busy preparing for Christmas. We hope this brings convenience to the public and lets them feel the government's concern for them this holiday season," the President stated on his social media account.
The free rides will be available from the opening to closing of operations of the three Metro Manila elevated train lines this Friday.

It is anticipated that the countless passengers who utilize these train lines will benefit from this initiative. An estimated 1.1 million passengers have used these train lines this year.
The Office of the President will cover the cost of the free rides on LRT 1 and 2, as well as MRT 3 today, according to a statement from the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
