"A few GCash users were affected due to errors in an ongoing system reconciliation process. This incident was isolated to a few users, and we assure our customers that their accounts are safe," said the GCash statement. Contact for further information was provided as Gilda Maquilan, Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications for GCash, and Rommin Diaz, Head of Corporate Communications Strategy for GCash.
GCash also said they have identified the customers whose accounts were affected and have already explained the situation, and are also returning their lost money.
Prior to this, several GCash customers, including comedian Pokwang, posted on social media about their shock at the loss of money from their e-wallets despite not clicking on any links or receiving an OTP (one-time-password).

Two thousand pesos were taken from each of their accounts and sent to the same two numbers which were allegedly not registered as GCash numbers.
