During a speech attended by His Excellency Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore, Taguig City Mayor Lano Cayetano stated that the agreement aligns with Taguig's vision of being a transformative, lively, and caring city. The agreement was between Taguig City, TEMASEK Foundation, KK Women's and Children's Hospital, and CareSpan Asia, Incorporated. It took place at the Kalayaan Hall of SM Aura Tower in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) on August 16.
"Our mission in Taguig has always been to provide equitable access to quality and affordable healthcare for all. We have pioneered programs in the country by offering comprehensive care, including nutrition, wellness, and various medical services, bringing healthcare closer to our community - sometimes even directly to their doorsteps," Cayetano stated.
On August 15, 2024, Singapore delegates, alongside local medical professionals and practitioners, gathered at the Kalayaan Hall, SM Aura Satellite Office for the Maternal and Child Health Symposium.
The event, titled "Shaping the Future of Maternal & Child Health in Taguig City," focused on cooperation to improve the health of mothers and their children.
Among those in attendance were Jennie Chua, Chairman of Health and Education at the Temasek Foundation; Kee Kirk Chuen, leader of Health and Well-being at the Temasek Foundation; Prof. Fabian Yap, Deputy Director of the Maternal and Child Health Research Institute at the KK Women's and Children's Hospital; Aloysius Colayco, Chairman of CareSpan Asia; Dan Reyes, CEO and President of CareSpan Asia; Dr. Shephali Tagore, Senior Consultant in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the KK Women's and Children's Hospital; Dr. Yip Wai Yan, Senior Consultant in Neonatology at the KK Women's and Children's Hospital; and Dr. Giselle Reinoso, Consultant in Child Development at the KK Women's and Children's Hospital.
The symposium discussed strategies for safe childbirth, causes of infant mortality, and innovative knowledge in the field of maternal and infant care.
"We aim to create a comprehensive healthcare program - providing services that cater to their physical, mental, social, and even economic concerns," expressed the mayor.
The Singapore delegates also visited health facilities in Taguig, including the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital, where the ongoing Center for Women and Children and other hospital improvements were showcased. They were also taken to the hospital's Milk Bank, which supports the nutrition of newborns.
The delegation also visited the North Signal Super Health Center, which has birthing facilities and a family planning room.
