The Japanese individual, Kudo Tomoya, 31 years old, applied for an extension to his tourist visa. It was during this process that the BI discovered he was on a watchlist due to his case in Japan. The BI had only received communication from Japanese authorities stating that there was a warrant for Kudo's arrest on November 8, 2024.
The warrant was issued by the Tokyo Summary Court in August due to Kudo's illegal entry into his former office in 2022, where he stole a bankbook and office equipment. He impersonated an employee from his past office and tricked a bank employee to withdraw money using the stolen bankbook.
Kudo arrived in the Philippines on October 15, 2024, intending to extend his stay in the country for more than a month.
Kudo is currently detained at the BI Detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig and is being prepared for deportation.
