This is according to the guidelines released by the Supreme Court in relation to the management by the Taguig City courts of cases pertaining to the EMBO (Enlisted Men's Barrio) barangays.
The Supreme Court's decision is a response to a letter from Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, who asked the court to transfer jurisdiction to the courts in Taguig as early as October 16 of this year.
However, to assist the courts, prosecution, Public Attorneys Office, and others involved in court proceedings in preparing for the transition, the Supreme Court has officially set the transfer for January 1, 2024.
Criminal cases that took place in the EMBO barangays and at Fort Bonifacio before January 1, 2024, will still be presented to the Makati Prosecutor's Office.
However, starting January 1, 2024, all complaints for criminal cases that occurred on January 1, 2024, and the days following will be presented to the Taguig City Prosecutor's Office.
All civil and criminal cases that have been filed or are pending in the first and second level courts of Makati City before January 1, 2024, will still continue to be heard and decided by the Makati City court.
"All parties, including judges, court personnel, prosecutors, public attorneys, legal practitioners, and the general public are enjoined by the High Court to review and adhere to the guidelines to facilitate a smooth and orderly transition," stated the court.
