Choi Wonchul, a fifty-nine-year-old man, was arrested on UN Avenue, Ermita, Manila on January 7, under a red notice from Interpol due to cases of embezzlement and fraudulent criminal acts in South Korea.

Choi worked as a car dealer in Seoul in 2008 and pocketed around US$65,000 from the sales of vehicles.

In the Philippines, he also deceived clients out of US$105,000, promising to sell their used vehicles to interested buyers.

Currently, the suspect is in the custody of the Philippine National Police - Manila Police District as his case is being heard in the country.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado stated that they will not allow the overstaying foreigner, who also has criminal charges in his country, to remain in the Philippines.

"We will expel and ban him from re-entering the country for being an undesirable alien. The Philippines is not a sanctuary for wanted criminals," Viado said.
