More than 700 billion yuan or US$95 billion was wagered in gambling operations conducted by a syndicate in China via the internet. The syndicate earned 2 billion yuan or US$272 million.
The syndicate reportedly employed seventy thousand individuals who enticed over 100 million Chinese to gamble on their websites.
One of the operators of the illegal gambling hid in the Philippines and was only arrested when attempting to fly from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Paranaque.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) stated that they arrested Huang Sen, 38 years old, while in the departure area of NAIA Terminal 1 on January 11, 2025.
An BI officer who was checking his documents and identity in the computer noticed that there was an Interpol Red Notice under his name.
The red notice was issued by Interpol on December 4, 2024, at the request of the Chinese government under the warrant of arrest issued by the public security bureau of Luojiang District in Deyang, China on August 27, 2024.
