Operations of the Light Rail Transit 1 (LRT-1) will temporarily cease for three consecutive weekends this August.

This move is in preparation for the opening of the Cavite Extension Phase 1 in the fourth quarter of this year.
LRT 1 trains from Fernando Poe, Jr. station to Baclaran station will not operate from August 17 to 18, August 24 to 25, and August 31 to September 1, 2024.
Once the LRT 1 extension is completed, connecting Manila to Cavite, travel time from Baclaran to Niog, Cavite will be reduced from an hour and ten minutes to just 25 minutes by train.
According to LRT, work on Phase 1 is ongoing and was 98.2% completed as of the end of April.
With this project, an additional 6.2 kilometers will be added to the current LRT-1 line from Baclaran Station to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City. Phase 1 is expected to be operational by the end of the year and will serve approximately 600,000 passengers daily.
The five new stations under Phase 1 nearing completion are Redemptorist Station, Manila International Airport Station, Asia World Station, Ninoy Aquino Station, and Dr. Santos Station.
