This move is in preparation for the Christmas season, where a surge of people on the roads is expected. The special permits to be issued by the LTFRB will be effective from December 20, 2024, until January 4, 2024.
"We are opening slots for special permits to ensure there are ample PUVs that would cater to commuters during the holidays," said LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III.
The LTFRB has also approved 5,000 slots for transport network vehicle services.
Guadiz encouraged the public to only ride legitimate public vehicles and report abusive drivers and operators to the LTFRB. Their hotlines are 1342, 0917-550-1342, and 0998-550-1342.
