During the turnover of command held at Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City yesterday, October 9, 2024, Major General Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr. handed over the command of the NCRPO to Hernia following his promotion as the Deputy Chief for Administration of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the second highest position in the PNP.

In a media interview, including Taguig.com, Hernia stated that he has several plans for the NCRPO, including modernizing their approach to crime fighting and utilizing technology to monitor its personnel while on duty.

Hernia also stated the need to balance responses to police actions.

"If we're quick to punish erring policemen, we should also be quick to reward good police work. But expect that the new leadership of the NCRPO will be as decisive as the previous regional director," said Hernia.

"We admit there's a need to clean our organization. We're not yet a perfect organization," Hernia added, when asked if he would carry out a clean-up in the ranks of the NCRPO like his predecessor.

Hernia was the former director of the PNP-Anti Cybercrime Group (ACG).
