Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano filed an "urgent manifestation and motion" with the Supreme Court to investigate and question Makati Mayor Abigail Binay over her statement that the case concerning the true ownership of Fort Bonifacio's 729 hectares of land is not yet over.

In an interview with the media, Binay said that Makati and Taguig's fight over the land at Fort Bonifacio Military Reservation, including several barangays and military headquarters, is not yet over because they filed a motion with the Supreme Court.

"We have a pending (omnibus) motion, so we are waiting for the Supreme Court to schedule a hearing on our motion, so it's not yet over," according to Binay.

Cayetano criticized Binay's statement after confirming with the Third Division of the Supreme Court that there was no order from the Supreme Court setting a hearing for the oral argument of the case in question.

"The decision of the Supreme Court is very clear, and it should be respected. As responsible local government officials, it is our duty to ease the minds of our constituents. I would like to state that as the Mayor of Taguig, it is not our intention to delay any public services in barangays that were formerly under Makati," said Cayetano when interviewed by the media.

Cayetano said that on September 28, 2022, the Supreme Court made a final decision on the case, declaring Taguig as the owner of Fort Bonifacio and its adjacent barangays.

This includes the prosperous Bonifacio Global City and the "embo" (enlisted men barrios) barangays such as Comembo, Cembo, South Cembo, West Rembo, East Rembo, and Pitogo.

The Supreme Court also declared Taguig as the owner of the land where the Philippine Army Headquarters, Navy Installation, Philippine Marines Headquarters, Consular area, JUSMAG area, Heritage Park, Libingan ng mga Bayani, AFP Officers Village, and six other nearby subdivisions are located.

Based on the Supreme Court's statement, "considering the historical evidence adduced, cadastral surveys submitted, and the contemporaneous acts of lawful authorities, we find that Taguig presented evidence that is more convincing and worthier of belief than those proffered by Makati."

The Supreme Court closed the case by entering it into the Book of Entries and Judgments, which means it can no longer be appealed or changed.

The Taguig City government said the favorable decision of the Supreme Court would give them the opportunity to serve their new constituents.

The battle between the two cities over Fort Bonifacio began in 1993 when the Bases Development Authority took over and some parts of Fort Bonifacio were transferred to Makati City under Presidential Proclamation Numbers 2475 and 518 by former President Fidel Ramos. The Taguig government appealed to the Pasig Regional Trial Court, where the three-decade fight for ownership of Fort Bonifacio began.
