A member of the Subanen/Subanon tribe is set to challenge veteran politicians, namely Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano and former Congressman Arnel Cerafica, in the race for the mayoralty of Taguig City.

Brigido Licudine of Barangay Western Bicutan lodged his candidacy with the Commission on Elections - Taguig at the Convention Center of the New Taguig City Hall on October 7, 2024, following Cayetano.

In an interview with Taguig.com, Licudine shared his aspiration to represent the Subanon tribe within the Taguig city government.

"In our number one role, we will be fair in serving the government, and will give what is due by utilizing all the appropriate government agencies," Licudine stated in his interview with Jayson Pulga of Taguig.com.

The Subanon tribe is predominantly located in the Zamboanga Peninsula. The term Subanon originates from the word 'suba' meaning river.
