A flock of one hundred and thirty-two migratory birds were sighted in a section of Laguna Lake near Mercado del Lago, Lakeshore, Barangay Lower Bicutan, Taguig City on January 24.
The sighting coincided with a lecture on bird diversity assessment and monitoring conducted by the city government of Taguig at the location.
The 132 birds comprised of eight species which included Rock Doves or feral pigeons, Whiskered Terns, Little Egrets, Javan Pond Herons, Common Kingfishers, Collared Kingfishers, Barn Swallows, and Eurasian Barn Swallows.
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano expressed her gratitude to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - National Capital Region (DENR-NCR) for their lecture on the careful interaction and observation of migratory birds.
The lecture covered the use of optical instruments, standards and guidelines, and tips on identifying, watching, and counting birds.
Twenty-five staff members from the Office of the City Veterinarian - Taguig, City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit, and City Environment and Natural Resources Office attended the said lecture.
