The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) has approved a P35 increase in the minimum wage for workers in private establishments across the National Capital Region (Metro Manila). The increase is in accordance with Wage Order No. NCR-25 issued on June 27, 2024.
The National Wages and Productivity Commission officially announced the minimum wage increase for Metro Manila workers on July 1, 2024, which will take effect on July 17, 2024.
From the current P610 daily wage, the minimum wage for those in the non-agriculture sector will increase to P645. For those in the agriculture sector, including service and retail establishments with 15 or fewer workers, the wage will increase to P608 from the current P573.
The previous wage increase for private establishments in the region became effective on July 16, 2023.
The daily minimum wage in the NCR will rise by 5.7% starting July 17, according to the government, this is still above the current regional poverty threshold for a family of five. As a result, wage-related benefits such as 13th-month pay, service incentive leave (SIL), and social security benefits such as SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG, increased by 5%.
The minimum wage increase will benefit an estimated 988,243 minimum wage earners in the NCR.
Retail or service establishments with no more than 10 regular workers and companies affected by natural or human-made disasters can apply for an exemption from the wage increase through the RTWPB, as per the NWPC Omnibus Rules on Minimum Wage Determination.
Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBEs) are not covered by the minimum wage law according to Republic Act No. 9178 [2002].
