Skechers distributed 100 pairs of SKX basketball shoes in conjunction with the public unveiling of the Skechers Tenement Court Mural at the Fort Bonifacio Tenement in Taguig City on August 3, 2024.
The mural features NBA basketball players Julius Randle of the New York Knicks and Terance Mann of the Los Angeles Clippers, who personally attended the event at the tenement basketball court in Barangay Fort Bonifacio.
The mural depicts the future of basketball in the Philippines, the love of spectators and players for the sport, and the Filipino identity represented by the wings of the Philippine eagle on the basketball held by Mann in the mural, and the weave of the fabric that can be seen in the indigenous Filipino culture on Randle's ball.
The design is wrapped in the colors of the Philippine flag.
The creators of the mural are the Tenement Visual Artists, a group of creators known for making murals that have gone viral worldwide.
"This unveiling was a huge opportunity to showcase the Philippines' passion for the game. It put the deep-seated enthusiasm of Filipino fans for the sport on full display. Basketball isn't just a sport in the Philippines, it's a national pastime, a way to bond with friends, and an avenue to unleash their competitive spirit. This mural validates and recognizes the unmatched love the country has for the game while bringing home a world-class basketball experience," Skechers stated in their media release.
Skechers also gave away 100 pairs of basketball shoes to the residents of the Tenement in conjunction with this event.
