Lapses have been found in several police stations in the Southern Police District.

During a surprise visit on the night of June 16, Major General Edgar Alan Okubo, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), discovered that the police station in Maharlika, Taguig, had only one officer on duty while the rest were assigned to checkpoints.

There were no officers attending to citizens who had inquiries or complaints at the Baclaran, Paranaque police station.

Meanwhile, the detention centers at the police stations in Malibay, Pasay, and Bangkal, Makati lacked closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, and detainees were overcrowded in these facilities.

Okubo sought explanations from SPD director Brig. Gen. Kirby John Kraft for these deficiencies at the police stations.

Okubo emphasized the need to implement a "buddy system" to ensure that at least two officers are on duty at all times in police stations.

He also suggested that district directors or station commanders seek assistance from local governments and stakeholders to purchase CCTV cameras for the stations.
