Thousands of individuals in the Castaic community of Los Angeles have been evacuated following the outbreak of a new wildfire, now ravaging approximately 9,400 acres of forest.

The blaze, dubbed Hughes Fire, ignited at 10:30 a.m. this past Wednesday, January 22, 2025 (LA time), near Castaic Lake, along Lake Hughes Road, north of Castaic Reservoir Road.

At present, the fire is 0% contained, or still not fully extinguished by firefighters.
LA County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone stated they have deployed roughly 4,000 personnel to the area.

Among those evacuated is her son who lives in Castaic.
Castaic community is situated in the northwestern Los Angeles County, approximately 15 miles northwest of Santa Clarita and adjacent to the Angeles National Forest.
Santa Clarita Valley is home to Six Flags Magic Mountain, from where the thick smoke from the Hughes Fire is currently visibly billowing.
