A Nigerian citizen was caught with illegal drugs and a firearm at a checkpoint conducted by the Commission on Elections and the Philippine National Police in Barangay Ligid Tipas, Taguig City recently.
The Taguig City Police confiscated 3.83 grams of cocaine, 2.8 grams of dried marijuana leaves, a firearm, and ammunition from the Nigerian citizen during a checkpoint in Barangay Ligis Tipas.

The Nigerian citizen was taken to the Taguig City Police station and will be charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002), Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), and Section 261 of the Omnibus Election Code (gun ban).
The gun ban is enforced throughout the country as part of maintaining peace and order for the upcoming elections on May 12, 2025.
The Comelec prohibits the carrying of firearms and deadly weapons outside of homes or businesses or other public places.
