The reason why Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City does not flood is due to a water detention tank that can hold 22,000 cubic meters of water.

The water detention tank sits beneath Burgos Circle in Forbes Town Center, 29th Street in BGC. The tank is 12 meters deep, equivalent to the height of a 4-story building.

Rainwater is stored in this tank before it is systematically released into nearby creeks and the Pasig River, which ultimately flows out to Manila Bay. As a result, flooding on the streets of BGC is prevented.

Similarly, Tokyo, Japan, also has a rainwater storage system called the Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel, where collected water is directed to the river during heavy rainfalls.

According to Malou Tiquia, the former Executive Director of the League of Municipalities in the Philippines and former president of Universidad de Manila, it is also critical to dredge the rivers and waterways in Metro Manila. "Plus, a decision on reclamation should be made once and for all. And then, plant, plant, plant so trees can hold the water. Without trees, water will seek its own way out and that often leads to NCR being a drainage basin."
