In recognition of the invaluable contributions of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families to the country, the Taguig City Government, through the Taguig OFW Affairs Office (TOFWAO) and City Health Office (CHO), conducted a Health Summit for OFWs and their families at Lakeshore Hall, Barangay Lower Bicutan on January 17, 2025.
The event was aimed at providing health support and services to OFWs and their families.
Over 600 OFWs and family members underwent consultation and were tested for random blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
They also underwent tuberculosis screening and chest X-rays, had ECG tests, breast examinations and cervical cancer screenings, and prostate cancer screenings through digital rectal examination.
HIV, syphilis and Hepatitis-B screenings were given, as well as eye examinations and glasses fittings, and dentist check-ups, tooth extractions, teeth cleanings, and fluoride treatments for children's teeth.
Mental health risk assessments and vitamins were also provided.
All these services were given free of charge by the Taguig City Government.
The OFWs and their families were also assisted in registering for PhilHealth and attending PhilHealth Consultations so that they can continue to have doctor check-ups through their PhilHealth membership even without a health summit.
Lectures on mental health and nutrition were also conducted.
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano attended the event where she assured the continuous support of Taguig City for the health and well-being of OFWs and their families.
"I am delighted as the Mayor of Taguig to be part of a program that aims to show our OFWs and their families the love and care of the City of Taguig, particularly in terms of health. Allow the Taguig City Government to provide medical services for you, so as not to add further worries and medical expenses," said the mayor.
"This initiative is part of the Transformative, Lively, and Caring agenda of the City of Taguig. Included here is the attention we give to healthcare for everyone. So, my only wish is for you to share our services because the goal of the local government is for all OFWs and their families to enjoy," she added.
Health Summit attendees also received rice, toothbrushes, toothpaste, iodized salt, and fans.
Marites Frilles, who worked for over 20 years as a nanny in Dubai and a resident of Barangay Wawa, said the health summit is essential to them because healthcare costs are no joke.
