Over 790 residents of Taguig benefited from free eye check-ups, eyeglasses, and denture services offered by Oplan Linaw and Oplan Ngiti at Lakeshore Hall, Barangay Lower Bicutan, Taguig City on January 21, 2025.
More than 790 Taguig residents had their eyes tested by optometrists, and 50 graduating students from Taguig City University were the first batch of beneficiaries under the Oplan Ngiti program. This program will also expand to other public universities in Taguig.
Those who had their eyes tested and were measured for glasses will receive a new set, personally delivered to their homes when ready.
The students checked by dentists will receive new dentures also delivered to their homes. This initiative aims to help students prepare for job applications once they finish their studies, contributing to self-confidence through improved smiles.
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano stated that prioritizing health is one of the main goals of the city government.
"In the city of Taguig, part of our Transformative, Lively, and Caring City Agenda is to ensure we deliver health services to our citizens. We continuously expand programs to provide help, especially to Taguig residents concerned about their eyes. Included here is Oplan Ngiti, part of our goal as a city that values oral health."
One of the beneficiaries of Oplan Ngiti, a 22-year-old BS Psychology student, said that fixing her teeth greatly helped to restore her self-confidence.
Meanwhile, 48-year-old mother Mary Grace Calderon, who had her eyes examined by optometrists, was overjoyed to receive her glasses, something she previously could not afford due to prioritising her child's upbringing and education expenses.
