The operation was carried out by the District Drug Enforcement Unit of the Southern Police District, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Southern District Highway Patrol Unit, the District Mobile Force Battalion of the SPD, and the Taguig City Police Sub-Station 2. They confiscated 4.5 kilos of suspected methamphetamine, known locally as shabu, and another 6.9 grams of suspected cocaine from Jhovel Ocampo.
Ocampo, a resident of Bacoor, Cavite, has reportedly long been involved in the selling of illicit drugs.
The 4.5 kilos of shabu is estimated to be worth P30,600,000 while the cocaine is valued at P36,570.
Police Brig. General Bernard Yang, District Director of the SPD, said that the arrest of this high-value individual and the seizure of such a significant amount of drugs demonstrate the police's commitment to keeping communities safe from drugs.
"The dedication and teamwork of our law enforcement units are crucial in dismantling illegal drug networks. We will continue these efforts to protect our neighborhoods from the threat of dangerous drugs," Yang further stated.
Police Major General Sidney Hernia, head of the National Capital Region Police Office also commended the successful buy-bust operation. "This successful operation by our multi-unit team in Taguig manifests our firm resolve to protect our communities from the impact of illegal drugs. Let it serve as a firm message: we will continue to take decisive steps to dismantle drug operations throughout Metro Manila."
Ocampo is currently in the custody of Taguig City Police, and a deeper investigation is underway to determine the suspect's network.
The suspect will be charged with violations of Section 5 and 11 under Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, at the Taguig City Prosecutors Office.
