The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has attributed the recent spate of electrical pole and wire fires to overloading, illegal electrical connections, and kite-flying near power lines.

This statement was given by Meralco to Taguig.com in relation to the consecutive fires on electricity poles in various parts of Taguig City and other areas of Metro Manila.

Meralco also noted that since the demand for electricity has increased due to the extremely hot weather, they have frequently been receiving reports related to blackouts or power interruptions.

Meralco pleaded with the public to avoid illegal connections to prevent incidents of power line fires.

"Our crews are tirelessly working to quickly resolve these issues and restore electricity service as soon as possible," Meralco stated.

Meralco further advised that if a flaming pole is spotted, it is best to immediately report it to the Meralco hotline 16211 or text 0920-9716211 and 0917-55-16211.

Messages can also be sent to their official social media channels on Facebook (www.facebook.com/meralco) or on their former Twitter handle (@meralco).

On the evening of Sunday, April 28, 2024, there were fires on the poles at 2nd and 3rd Street in Barangay Katuparan, as well as in Paulina Ville Barangay Calzada-Tipas, Cristobal Street Barangay Central Bicutan, and Barangay West Rembo.
