Ang programang pinamagatang "Novel Approaches to Treatment of Addiction and Depression using Animal Models" o NATAD Program na pinangungunahan ni Dr. Rohani Cena-Navarro ng University of the Philippines Manila - National Institutes of Health (UP-NIH) ay naglalayong makahanap ng gamot at solusyon sa adiksyon sa toluene at pagkakaroon ng depression.
Ang programa ay magtatagal ng hanggang January 31, 2024 para sa dagdag na pagsasaliksik at development.
Sa unang proyekto, nagsagawa ang mga siyentista ng pilot study sa mga lalaking daga at inimbestigahan ang epekto ng chronic unpredictable mild stress at nagsagawa rin ng serye ng behavioral tests sa mga daga, na nagbigay-linaw kaugnay sa addiction at depression.
Pinag-aaralan din ngayon ang potensiyal na benepisyo at panganib ng pagbibigay ng kumbinasyon na psychobiotic at antidepressant drug bilang gamot laban sa mg ana-adik sa toluene.
Sinabi ni DOST Secretary Renato Solidum na sinusuportahan niya ang NATAD Program. "The NATAD Program aligns with the DOST's commitment to advancing research and development that directly addresses the pressing needs of our society. Beyond projects on health and rehabilitation, DOST is also developing adhesive additives that lessen health hazards. This way, we encourage transformative changes that will benefit the health and safety of individuals, families, communities and even affect socio economic concerns in the country," ayon kay Solidum.
