Philippine airports were impacted by the global cyber outage, caused by a sudden halt in the operations of Microsoft Windows devices, on July 19, 2024.

Passengers were crammed in airports as staff had to manually process travel arrangements, including check-ins.

According to some passengers, directions to their gate assignments at Ninoy Aquino International Airport were manually written.

Several flights of Cebu Pacific were cancelled due to system errors, and Air Asia flights were also affected.

The process of checking in, self-check-in kiosks, and mobile applications were non-operational due to the cyber outage.

Internationally, the airports in Los Angeles, California, and Washington, DC were affected by what were referred to as "Blue Screens of Death" in their systems.

Passengers were also stranded in Berlin, Germany, and Spain due to flight cancellations and delays, as well as in America, Australia, Singapore, the Netherlands, Portugal, India, Dubai, and France.

The collapse in the systems of various computers and other electronic devices powered by Microsoft Windows also affected vendors, telecommunication companies, banking and media outlets worldwide.

According to US cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, the outage occurred due to an issue with their Falcon Sensor, causing Microsoft to crash.

However, CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz assured that this event was not related to hacking or cyber attack.
