This follows the issuance of a directive by the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Office of the Schools Division Superintendent of Taguig City, Dr. Cynthia Ayles, to two security agencies contracted by Taguig, to take over 14 schools in the Embo barangays as of noon on August 12.
Captain Ives Ebrada ordered the Pitogo Elementary School and Pitogo High School to be locked down and barricades to be erected on the routes leading to the said schools.
The captain reiterated that they would not allow the schools built with the taxpayers' money of Makati to be taken over by Taguig. "If possible, we want no violence. I request you to protect Pitogo Elementary School and Pitogo High School," Ebrada stated.
In a prior interview with Makati Mayor Abby Binay before the issuance of the takeover directive of the schools in Embo barangays, she stated that properties like the schools of Makati are still owned by the city of Makati.
"The political jurisdiction is only for Taguig. What this means is that this area is now under Taguig, but properties like Makati schools, Makati Hospital, barangay halls, health centers, all these are owned by the city of Makati. They are not included in the decision," Binay said.
Included in the 14 schools planned to be taken over by Taguig security personnel, apart from Pitogo Elementary and High School, are Makati Science High School, Fort Bonifacio Elementary and High School, Cembo Elementary School, South Cembo Elementary School, Pembo Elementary School, Comembo Elementary School, East and West Rembo Elementary Schools, Rizal Elementary School, Benigno S. Aquino High School, and Tibagan High School.
