The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced that plastic card driver's licenses are back and available, allowing drivers to renew their expired licenses.
However, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II stated that a specific schedule has been set for drivers wishing to replace their licenses. For now, only those with licenses that expired between April 1st and September 30th of this year can renew and receive the plastic cards.
Licenses expired between April 1st and 30th can be replaced from October 6th to 31st.
Those with licenses that expired in May can only renew at LTO branches throughout the month of November this year.
For those whose driver's licenses expired in June, their new licenses will be available in December.
Licenses expired in July can be renewed in January of the following year; those expired in August can get new driver's licenses in February; and licenses expired in September will have renewals in March.
Licenses that will expire from October to December can still be used, as a schedule for renewal has not yet been set. For these renewals, a plastic card will be issued instead of a paper print-out.
Driver's licenses that expired on or after April 1st and weren't renewed due to a lack of plastic cards can also continue to be used until their renewal schedule arrives.
Those with licenses printed on paper simply need to visit LTO branches and show their payment receipts to receive their plastic driver's license.
The currently issued driver's licenses by the LTO can be used for ten years, in accordance with Republic Act (RA) No. 10930, which revised the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
License holders simply need to have a clean record and pass the Comprehensive Driver's Education (CDE) course, which includes a refresher seminar and examination.
