The pregnant woman's husband is also currently detained at the BI Detention Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City following his earlier arrest by the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group on similar charges.

According to Rendel Sy, the head of the BI Fugitive Search Unit, the woman they arrested was in charge of contacting their Chinese compatriots in the Philippines to arrange meetings.

"They kidnap other Chinese people here in the Philippines. She's the one contacting their would-be victims and meeting them somewhere. When they meet, the male accomplices are already there to perform the kidnapping," said Sy.

Once a victim is kidnapped, the couple then demands a ransom from the victim's family, with the requested payment being cryptocurrency, Sy added.

Sy also noted that they initially had difficulty tracing the whereabouts of the pregnant woman due to her frequently changing names and residences.
