Just like Lapu-Lapu, Dr. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Antonio Luna, and the Katipuneros, modern heroes also exhibit courage and love for the country, according to Marcos.

"Their bravery and determination paved the way to the freedom that all of us enjoy today, although it came at a high cost-their peace, their rights, [and] their lives. Heroism also lies in him and her who are virtuous, in those who are compassionate, in those who are just. We have seen how it resides in the heart of a modern-day Filipino, fearless amidst the continuing adversities and perils that the world has unleashed - geopolitical conflicts, diseases, [and] climate change," according to the President.

He cited as examples the personnel of the Philippine Navy and Philippine Coast Guard who continually defend our territorial waters, the soldiers who protect the citizens, and the healthcare workers who risk their lives for the safety of others.

He also recognized the heroism of overseas Filipinos who sacrifice for their families, of ordinary workers who are the backbone of the economy, and of farmers and fishermen who provide food for the nation.
