In a social media post, Trump stated, "I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong when I heard a whizzing sound, gunshots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through my skin. There was a lot of bleeding, so I quickly realized what was happening."

Trump was just beginning his speech around 6:15 PM when the shooting occurred. In the live stream of the event, Trump can be seen halting his speech, touching his right ear, and then ducking down. He was shielded by Secret Service agents until someone yelled "shooter down," and only then did they help Trump stand.
