World AIDS Day was celebrated in Taguig City with the Love Gala 2024, held at the Marquis Events Place in Bonifacio Global City (BCG) on December 3, 2024, and attended by 2015 Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach-Jauncey.
The event, titled "Eternal Elegance: A Night of Timeless Love," a joint project of Taguig City and Love Yourself, Inc., also marked the launch of the upcoming Taguig Youth Development Center.
An auction featuring Wurtzbach's memorabilia from her time in Miss Universe took place, including her worn gowns, sash, and notebook documenting her Miss Universe experiences. The funds raised will go towards the construction of the proposed two-story facility in Taguig.
The center is set to be a safe and welcoming space for Taguig's youth, providing guidance and opportunities to develop their additional skills.
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, who attended the event, expressed her high hopes that it would greatly benefit the youth.
"This center will be a cornerstone of our shared commitment to empowering the next generation."
Wurtzbach, a supporter of Love Yourself and UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for Asia and the Pacific, stressed the importance of immediate assistance, especially medical treatment, for those affected by HIV.
"Together, we can create a world-or a universe rather-where safe spaces, innovation, and sustainability are a norm. The advocacy is not just mine; it is ours," said Wurtzbach.
Taguig City has long supported initiatives to control and treat HIV and AIDS. Through its Social Hygiene Clinic and Drop-In Center, the city government provides door-to-door HIV screening, medicine delivery, and comprehensive laboratory testing services.
