The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided assistance to orphaned children and elderly individuals without families living in Taguig, Pasay, Caloocan, Paranaque, Pasay, Manila, and Quezon City by providing them temporary shelter.

Since July, through the Oplan Pag-Abot initiative, they have rescued 28 orphaned children, 174 elderly individuals without families, and even 47 families or 142 individuals who were sleeping on the streets.

These individuals were taken to centers operated by DSWD and local governments to receive temporary care, necessary provisions, and other interventions.

Under the program, DSWD has acquired 12 new vehicles to be used for the rescue of street children and homeless elderly individuals.

The Oplan Pag-Abot team will continue to patrol the 16 areas in the National Capital Region starting this September in hopes of finding more people they can rescue from the streets.

Froilan Maglaya, the team leader of Oplan Pag-Abot, stated that these vehicles are a significant addition to their operations, which they hope to implement in other provinces as well.

The children and elderly individuals in their care are also being sought for permanent solutions to their problems.
